Olympians Hayden, McCabe, Dickens golden in the pool at Canada Cup

Canadian Olympians Martha McCabe of Toronto, Brent Hayden of Mission, B.C., and Scott Dickens of Ancaster, Ont., each won a gold medal on Saturday at the Mel Zajac Jr-Canada Cup swimming competition.

In the women?s 200-metre breaststroke, McCabe produced a strong second length to win in two minutes 25.81 seconds. Tera van Beilen of Oakville, Ont., also headed to London, followed in 2:27.93 and Kierra Smith of Kelowna, B.C., was third in 2:30.44.

In the men?s 200-metre breaststroke, Dickens collected his second victory by placing first in 2:13.80. Edmonton?s Richard Funk was second in 2:16.86 and Andrew Poznikoff of Burnaby, B.C., third in 2:20.36. Dickens is qualified for the 100 and 200 breaststroke for London.

In the men?s 50-metre freestyle, Hayden earned the win in 22.76 while his Olympic teammate Tommy Gossland of Vancouver was sixth.

Other Canadian winners were Jake Tapp of Langley, B.C., in the 100 butterfly and Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg in the women?s 50 freestyle.
